This is Brandon
Shelby from the
Beatrice State Developmental Center in Beatrice Nebraska. As
you may already know BSDC is a residential care facility for
people with developmental disabilities, all with a primary
diagnosis of mental
retardation. That being said I am getting ready to help
organize a car club for some of our residents. A lot of the
individuals that live at BSDC have a strong interest in cars,
trucks, and racing, and they would love to get involved with some of
the car clubs in the community. My idea for right now is to host
sort of an informal car club expo for our first meeting. I want to
try and get a representative from a few of the local car clubs to
come down and sort of pitch their clubs to our residents. All this
would entail is bringing a few pictures, a brochure maybe, and just
some general knowledge
about cars, so that our residents can ask questions. I also want
the residents to get an idea of the exciting things our club will
eventually offer. How involved we are with your club in the future
is up to you. It may just mean a few of our guys come to your next
car show or maybe some volunteer club members could swing by BSDC
for an evening ride. The door is open, It’s up to you and your
members. We could have a BSDC
car club meeting based around one show car coming to BSDC for
a half an hour and our residents would love it. Anybody from your
club that comes down here will have a great time too. Our residents
are a lot of fun to work with and it’s a great
volunteer opportunity for someone who wants to give back to
the community. Let me know if you or anyone you know might be
interested. Again the car club expo would be really informal and a
really great thing to offer our residents. The expo will either be
on a Tuesday or
Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 date to be determined….
